A multi-optical-size revival of 16th-century French type, developed by students at EESAB Rennes, that moves from the blurred looseness of small bodies to the sharp precision of larger ones, with inclusive ligatures woven into each style.
About
Garabosse draws on the work of Claude Garamont, Robert Granjon, Simon de Colines and Pierre Haultin, using Hendrik Vervliet's French Renaissance Printing Types as its primary source. Each of the five optical sizes – from the smallest Perle to the largest Parangonne – is designed to reflect the particular imprecision, accident and materiality of type at that original body size. Inclusive ligatures are built into every cut, adapting to the tighter or looser spacing conditions of each optical size.
Classification
A revival rooted in 16th-century French typefaces by Garamont, Granjon, Colines and Haultin, drawing from Vervliet's French Renaissance Printing Types conspectus. Each optical size is designed to reflect the specific characteristics of its historical body size, placing it firmly in the Garalde (old-style humanist serif) tradition.
