A gestural sans serif by Pilar Cano and Ferran Milan that uses curvy, painterly forms to push well beyond the conventions of the genre.
About
Arlette began with the fast stroke of one letter from a Roger Excoffon family, then left that reference behind for its own curvy, gestural forms. Eight weights from Hairline to Black come with matching italics. Swashes, swash ligatures, arrows, pointers and several figure sets suit it to book covers, branding, packaging and young adult titles, and it stays readable at small sizes.
Classification
Arlette is classified as a sans serif but departs from conventional grotesque or geometric models through its gestural, curvilinear stroke construction rooted in calligraphic speed. Its painterly character places it firmly in an expressive or experimental sans subcategory.
