Lidia

ParaType · Iraida Chepil; Viktor Kharyk · 1967

displayinline serif
Lidia specimen from ParaType

A caps-only inline serif designed at Polygraphmash in 1967 by Iraida Chepil, digitised and completed for ParaType in 2005 by Viktor Kharyk.

About

Originally created at the Polygraphmash type design bureau, Lidia treats classical serif forms as the basis for an open, engraved style in which the main strokes carry a white inline. The result suits magazine headlines, posters and title settings where a retro, decorative register is needed. The 2005 digital revision by Viktor Kharyk extended and completed the original design.

Classification

A decorative open/engraved variant of classical serif letterforms, using inline strokes to create a highlighted effect typical of mid-century display type. Its caps-only character and ornamented strokes place it firmly in the display category.
