A digitisation of Pavel Kuzanyan's 1959 Soviet hand-composition typeface, revised by Lyubov Kuznetsova at ParaType in 2002 with two bold styles added in 2020.
About
Originally drawn at the Polygraphmash type design bureau in 1959, the design combines sharp contrast and strong weight with slightly condensed proportions and calligraphic details. It was reproduced in the 1960s for slugcasting and machine display composition before being revived as a digital typeface. The four-style family suits text and display use across scientific, fiction and art publishing.
Classification
A high-contrast Modern serif with calligraphic elements and slightly condensed proportions, following the Didone tradition with sharp contrast and strong weight typical of Soviet-era book typefaces.
