Svetlana specimen from ParaType

A digital revival of Michael Rovensky's 1976–81 body text companion to the Bazhanov Display typeface, rooted in the Soviet hand-lettering style of Moscow book designer Dmitry Bazhanov.

About

Originally drawn by Michael Rovensky (1902–1996) as a companion to his Bazhanov Display (1961), the design captures the pen-drawn lettering of Dmitry Bazhanov (1902–1945), a Moscow book designer active in the 1940s. The digital version was prepared at ParaType in 1996 by Lyubov Kuznetsova, preserving its old-fashioned calligraphic flavour. Four styles cover regular, italic, bold and bold italic.

Classification

A calligraphic serif rooted in Soviet hand-lettering of the 1940s, with an old-fashioned, pen-drawn quality that places it between formal script and traditional book serif traditions.
