sans-serifhumanist sanscondenseditalic
FreeSet specimen from ParaType

A Frutiger-based humanist sans from ParaType, expanded over nearly three decades to cover 15 styles including condensed cuts and Cyrillic and Armenian scripts.

About

Originally four styles drawn by Tagir Safayev in 1992 for ParaGraph, FreeSet is rooted in Adrian Frutiger's 1976 airport signage design for Charles de Gaulle. The family was extended between 1997 and 2020 with additional upright and condensed weights, gaining Armenian script support via Manvel Shmavonyan. It suits technical documentation, poster work and navigation systems equally well.

Classification

Based on Adrian Frutiger's 1976 Frutiger design for Mergenthaler Linotype, FreeSet shares its open apertures, humanist stroke modulation and legibility-first construction, making it a clear humanist sans-serif revival.
