A Cyrillic-extended adaptation of Freeman Craw's 1961 ATF display face, distinguished by irregular rectangular counters and a woodcut-like quality suited to poster and advertising work.
About
Originally designed by Freeman Craw for American Type Founders in 1961, this Bitstream-derived version gains Cyrillic support through Vladimir Pavlikov's 2000 work for ParaType. The typeface's defining character comes from its simulated hand-cut construction: round letters carry rectangular counters, and some lowercase characters carry a slight inclination. Originally issued with numerous alternate characters, it remains a single bold weight aimed squarely at display and advertising contexts.
Classification
A bold, irregular grotesque with woodcut-like characteristics and rectangular counters in round characters. Its hand-cut, freeform quality places it firmly in the display/decorative category rather than conventional sans-serif.
