Formera specimen from Noir Blanc Rouge

A digital reconstruction of what is believed to be the earliest surviving proof of Futura, drawn from lead type held by the typography department of La Cambre in Brussels, with outlines preserved from print rather than redrawn.

About

Bastien Sozeau vectorised prints of the original 1927 La Cambre lead type, retaining the irregularities of the printing process rather than cleaning them into a conventional digital revival. The result preserves features absent from commercial Futura: a straight-stroked m and n, and an r reduced to a bar and a point. Available as a free download in two weights, Light and Regular, with an extensive glyph set covering 360 languages and rich OpenType support.

Classification

Geometric sans-serif directly derived from the earliest known draft of Futura (1927), predating the commercial release. Characteristic features include absolutely straight m and n strokes and an r formed as a bar followed by a point, distinguishing it from the refined production version.
