A geometric lineal whose proportions are derived from gothic Rotunda script, offering optional OpenType alternates that recall medieval 'turned' capital letters and archaic lowercase forms.
About
Matthieu Cortat based Anacharsis on the round, southern European Rotunda letters of the 14th and 15th centuries, producing a geometric sans with softer proportions than its Futura lineage might suggest. Two sets of OpenType alternates extend its range: one set reintroduces 'turned' capital forms (E, F, H, I, J, M, N, P, S, T, V, W, Y) from medieval scribal practice, the other offers archaic lowercase variants (a, d, h, l, s, v, w, y). Both sets are inactive by default, allowing the face to function as a clean, classical lineal across six styles.
Classification
A modernist geometric lineal in the tradition of Futura, Simplex and Semplicità, but with proportions drawn from gothic Rotunda letterforms of 14th–15th century southern Europe, giving it rounder, softer forms than a typical geometric grotesque.
