Matthieu Cortat's 2019 lineal draws on the stone-cut modernist inscriptions of 1920s–30s French Art Deco, delivered across 12 styles in two optical sizes with variable font support.
About
Named after the iconic Art Deco swimming complex in Paris, Molitor is a low-contrast lineal with barely flared strokes and rigorously circular round shapes that expand in all directions while verticals extend only in height. The Text optical size follows the proportions of imperial roman capitals reinterpreted through a modernist lens, with a short x-height and traditional lowercase structure; the Display version exaggerates those proportions toward the theatrical drama of French Art Deco. A 16° italic maintains circular round shapes despite its sharp slant, and two variable font axes allow continuous control across weight and optical size.
Classification
A low-contrast lineal with slightly flared strokes, drawing on the modernist stone-cut inscriptions of 1920s–30s French Art Deco. Circular round shapes and a sharp 16° italic slant place it firmly in the geometric-influenced lineal tradition rather than a pure grotesque or humanist sans.
