The Future
Klim Type Foundry · Kris Sowersby · 2022

A rigorous geometric sans built from Renner's original Futura production drawings, paired with a speculative monospaced companion reimagined as a typewriter face.
About
The Future is Kris Sowersby's close study of Paul Renner's Futura, developed from original brass plates and intaglio prints at the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig. It restores the stricter geometric severity of early Futura iterations while retaining the weight-specific optical corrections and eccentric alternates that give Renner's work its character. The Future Mono extends the family as a speculative monospaced variant, framing Futura as if adapted by Renner for typewriter use under Japanese typographic influence, with outlined punctuation and an unusual stick-and-ball r.
Classification
Geometric sans-serif modelled on Paul Renner's Futura. Sowersby worked from original brass plates and intaglio prints at the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig to restore Futura's early, stricter geometric construction — purer circular forms, weight-specific optical corrections, and a selection of Renner's experimental alternates (ten stylistic sets). The accompanying The Future Mono is a speculative monospaced variant framed as a typewriter adaptation under Japanese typographic influence, featuring outlined punctuation and the eccentric stick-and-ball r alternate.
