NewSM세명조
Jikji Soft · 이가희 · 2025

A 2025 renewal of the classic SM세명조, preserving Choe Jeong-ho's brush-stroke heritage while extending the family to three weights and refining Latin glyphs in a Garamond-influenced humanist style.
About
NewSM세명조 traces its lineage from the lead type era through the first digital release in 1991, now updated with systematically regularised jaso forms for a more even and stable impression on the page. The Latin alphabet follows a low x-height, long-extender structure in the humanist tradition, calibrated to sit naturally alongside the Korean characters. A three-tier numeral system and OpenType-driven punctuation positioning accommodate mixed Korean and Latin composition across diverse typesetting environments.
Classification
A Korean myeongjo (明朝) typeface rooted in the brush-stroke tradition of Choe Jeong-ho's original type drawings, with Latin glyphs designed in a Garamond-influenced humanist style featuring low x-height and long extenders.
