ATF Super Condensed specimen from ATF Collection

A revival of Inland Type Foundry's Extra Condensed Gothic No. 1 (1905), expanded into 42 styles across six widths and seven weights for headline-setting across a wide range of spatial constraints.

About

Based on Extra Condensed Gothic No. 1, originally issued by Inland Type Foundry in 1905 and later continued by American Type Founders after its 1911 acquisition, this family stretches the source material across six widths — Compressed through Wide — each available in seven weights from Hairline to Black. The result is a 42-style superfamily suited to magazines, book covers, posters and campaigns where strong vertical impact is required.

Classification

A condensed gothic revival based on Extra Condensed Gothic No. 1 (Inland Type Foundry, 1905), spanning six widths from Compressed to Wide across seven weights. The upright-only, headline-focused design and extreme condensed proportions place it firmly in the display gothic tradition.
