Ouvrières
Velvetyne · Laure Azizi · 2023

A variable display face where letterforms shift along two axes like a colony of ants adapting their formation.
About
Ouvrières treats its variable axes as a colony of worker ants, hungry, exploring, fighting or full, each state reshaping the letters into one of its named variants. Laure Azizi built it in 2023 during Eugénie Bidaut's variable typography course at La Cambre in Brussels, and the organic, assembled quality of the forms carries the insect metaphor through.
Classification
Designed during a variable-typography course at La Cambre in Brussels. Two variable axes let the letterforms shift between six named states, likened to a colony of worker ants adapting their formation.
