BBB Open Sans specimen from Typothèque Bye Bye Binary

A fork of Google's Open Sans, extended by Clara Sambot, Quentin Lamouroux and Camille Circlude with gender-inclusive glyphs built from loops that bridge masculine and feminine letter endings.

About

Commissioned by Les Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels, the BBB Open Sans departs from Steve Matteson's original by introducing a system of upper and lower loops that connect gendered letter terminations into unified, inclusive characters. Released under the Open Font Licence, it was first used in the venue's 2023–2024 season programme. The project sits within Bye Bye Binary's broader practice of developing typographic tools for gender-inclusive French writing.

Classification

A fork of Steve Matteson's Open Sans, itself a humanist sans-serif. The BBB version adds gender-inclusive glyphs built from loops connecting masculine and feminine letter terminals.
