A collectively extended revival of the ANRT's Baskervville, augmented since 2018 with post-binary glyphs designed to introduce non-normative gender characters into academic and institutional typographic contexts.
About
Built on the ANRT's Baskervville – itself tracing back to Claude Jacob's 1784 interpretation of Baskerville's types – the BBB Baskervvol adds a growing set of post-binary characters developed collaboratively since 2018. Released under the libre CUTE licence, it positions itself as a historically authoritative alternative to Times New Roman for academic publishing, while opening that authority to gender-inclusive writing. In 2026, Vietnamese glyphs were added by Khải Nguyễn for the ANRT's 2013–2025 catalogue.
Classification
A revival of the transitional serif tradition via the ANRT's Baskervville, itself derived from Claude Jacob's 1784 imitation of Baskerville's mid-18th-century types. Retains the high stroke contrast and crisp serifs characteristic of the transitional classification, extended with post-binary typographic characters.
