A sharp, low-contrast serif spanning seven subfamilies from caption to mega-compressed, born from a chance encounter with lettering on a Marseille tide gauge and developed by CSTM Fonts between 2021 and 2024.
About
Yury Ostromentsky drew on the close proportions and low contrast of 19th-century French institutional lettering, blending historic reference with personal letterforming instincts. The collection covers a full optical range across 20 styles plus a variable font, with extensive OpenType features including small caps, four figure sets, circled numerals, and seven stylistic sets that can push the reserved default setting toward the expressive character of the historical prototype. Cyrillic coverage extends to over 50 languages, with Latin, and the family has been used in editorial, book publishing and broadcast contexts.
Classification
A modern serif with low contrast and close proportions, inspired by historical French lettering found on a Marseille tide gauge pavilion. Sharp, concise letterforms across optical sizes from caption to poster distinguish it as a contemporary design rather than a strict revival.
