A 2024 revision of Ilya Ruderman's Permian typeface, originally created for Perm's city identity, expanded into 10 families spanning sans and serif cuts from text to poster scale.
About
Originally designed around 2010 for Perm's cultural rebranding – appearing in street signage, theatre posters and the city magazine Sol – Permian has been updated by Tolya Doodko and Ruderman into the Guild Collection. The collection divides into Guild A (sans) and Guild B (serif), each offered in Text, Display, Banner, Poster and Variable subfamilies, with display cuts featuring enough contrast that the sans approaches serif territory in heavier weights. Extended Cyrillic coverage includes Bulgarian, Serbian and Macedonian, alongside an extensive Latin range that includes Vietnamese.
Classification
The collection spans sans serif (Guild A) and serif (Guild B) families derived from a humanist base, with display cuts adding high contrast that blurs the sans/serif boundary at certain weights. The shared graphic idea across both sub-families places this in the humanist tradition.
