ST Steppe SemiExpanded

SteppeType

sans-serifgeometric grotesque
ST Steppe SemiExpanded specimen from SteppeType

A semiexpanded geometric grotesque from SteppeType's five-family Steppe collection, built on near-equal character widths with large lowercase forms, closed apertures and generous spacing.

About

Part of the ST Steppe Collection, this semiexpanded family applies a hyperstatic approach to geometric grotesque design: characters strive toward equal width, resisting conventional proportional variation. Nine weights run from Thin to Black, each covering 958 glyphs with extended Latin and Cyrillic, a full numerals suite and OpenType features including stylistic and localised substitutions. Despite its mechanical premise, the typeface retains a friendly legibility at small sizes, making it suitable for navigation systems, IT and advertising contexts.

Classification

A hyperstatic geometric grotesque where characters are designed to approach equal width, producing expanded proportions with closed apertures and near-circular ovals. The semiexpanded variant sits within a broader collection of five families sharing this same geometric, spacious construction.
