sans-serifgeometric grotesque
ST Steppe Expanded specimen from SteppeType

A geometric grotesque with equal-width character proportions, producing an open, mechanised texture suited to signage, navigation and corporate applications.

About

ST Steppe Expanded belongs to the five-family ST Steppe Collection, each sharing a hyperstatic approach in which characters push towards uniform widths, expanding the typographic colour considerably. Large lowercase letters, closed apertures and generous inter-letter spacing give it a slightly mechanical quality that remains friendly at small sizes. Each family ships in nine weights from Thin to Black, with 958 glyphs per style including extended Cyrillic and Latin, multiple numeral sets, OpenType features and a set of arrows and icons.

Classification

A geometric grotesque with hyperstatic proportions, meaning characters are designed to approach equal widths, producing an unusually open, spacious texture with closed apertures and near-circular ovals.
