Sharp Earth Arabic
Sharp Type · Maha Akl & Shahd El-Sabbagh · 2023

A low-contrast Arabic companion to Sharp Earth, drawing on Thuluth's weight and Naskh's rounded forms to match the Latin's warmth and restraint across a six-weight variable range.
About
Sharp Earth Arabic is Sharp Type's first Arabic typeface, designed by Shahd El-Sabbagh from late 2020 and completed by Maha Akl in October 2023 under the direction of Lucas Sharp. It draws on Thuluth calligraphy's boldness and the rounded clarity of Naskh, sharing the Sharp Earth Latin's low contrast, delicately flared terminals and uniform ascender height. Delivered as a variable font spanning Thin to ExtraBold with italics throughout, it works across text and display use and covers a broad range of Arabic-script languages.
