Eterne Display specimen from Sharp Type

A compact condensed serif built for titling, drawing on French display type tradition and magician's ephemera, with idiosyncratic cuts and gestural letterform twists.

About

Eterne Display takes its cues from printed magician's ephemera and the condensed French titling types of Deberny & Peignot's Elzévir Gras Allongé. Designer Kia Tasbihgou works idiosyncratic incisions and gestural twists into the letterforms, giving the family its own character without sacrificing legibility at display scale. It sits alongside the companion Eterne Text, which applies the same sensibility at reading sizes with refined clarity.

Classification

A compact, condensed serif display typeface inspired by printed magician's ephemera and French titling types – specifically Deberny & Peignot's Elzévir Gras Allongé. Designer Kia Tasbihgou introduces idiosyncratic incisions and gestural letterform twists that distinguish it from conventional display revivals. The family comes in 6 styles (specific weight names unconfirmed at time of research). It is inherently compact and narrow by design rather than offering a separate condensed sub-family, and pairs with the companion Eterne Text (8 styles) for reading-size applications.
