A chunky informal display sans with six decorative variants, evoking letterforms cut by hand with metal tools rather than drawn with pen or brush.
About
Designed by Gennady Fridman and first released in 2004, Zubilo takes its name from the Russian word for chisel, and the letterforms reflect that etymology: bold, blunt and seemingly hacked rather than drawn. Six styles including Inline, Lined, Rough, Round and Shadow were developed across 2004, 2011 and 2019 by the same designer. The family suits advertising, posters, comic publications and youth press where a raw, energetic voice is needed.
Classification
An informal decorative sans serif with multiple ornamental styles (Inline, Lined, Rough, Round, Shadow) suggesting hand-cut letterforms; the expressive, tool-hewn character places it firmly in the display/decorative category rather than a standard grotesque.
