A highly condensed display serif from TypeMarket, drawn by Alexey Kustov in 1996 based on Adobe's Willow by Joe Redick.
About
Based on Willow, Joe Redick's 1953 Adobe design, Viola carries the same extreme vertical compression and sharp stroke contrast into a single Normal style. The letterforms shown in the specimen feature dramatically tall, narrow proportions with elegant thin strokes that suit large-scale display use.
Classification
The specimen shows a tall, narrow serif letterform with high stroke contrast and very condensed proportions, characteristic of display typefaces derived from the Willow tradition. The extreme compression and elegant thin strokes place it firmly in the display category.
