A 1993 decorative display typeface from TypeMarket, modelled on Cassandre's Peignot, mixing uppercase and small-capital forms across three weights.
About
Designed by Alexander Kustov at TypeMarket in 1993, Penta follows the distinctive convention of Adolphe Mouron Cassandre's Peignot (Haas, 1937), substituting lowercase letters with small capitals to create a unified uppercase-driven rhythm. Three weights – Light, Demi Bold and Bold – cover the range from editorial to headline use. Published and distributed through ParaType.
Classification
The specimen shows a bold sans-serif with mixed-case letterforms where uppercase and small capitals alternate within a single word, following the Peignot model. This distinctive feature places it firmly in the display/decorative category rather than conventional sans-serif.
