An Arabic Naskh typeface designed at ParaType in 1994, rooted in classical Egyptian calligraphy and originally commissioned for the Al Ahram newspaper in Cairo.
About
Developed by Lyubov Kuznetsova, Naskh Ahmad traces its origins to her earlier Naskhi Aswani (Polygraphmash, 1960), itself informed by a close study of classical Egyptian calligraphic tradition and contemporary Arabic Naskh typography. The face was initially created for Al Ahram, one of Egypt's most prominent newspapers, and is suited to text and display use across newspapers, magazines and books. Two weights – Book and Bold – make up the family.
Classification
A traditional Arabic Naskh typeface rooted in classical Egyptian calligraphy, falling within the broad category of serif-equivalent Arabic script styles characterised by the Naskh convention of horizontal baseline and moderate stroke contrast.
