Maryam specimen from ParaType

A Naskh-style Arabic typeface developed at ParaType in 1994, rooted in classical calligraphy study and suited to both editorial text and display use.

About

Maryam was developed by Lyubov Kuznetsova at ParaType (then ParaGraph) in 1994, building on her earlier Kuznetsova Abridge design from 1974. The design draws from a thorough study of classical Arabic calligraphy and modern Arabic typefaces in the Naskh tradition. Its four styles cover newspaper, magazine and book settings at both text and display sizes.

Classification

An Arabic typeface in the Naskh style, a calligraphic tradition historically used for manuscript and printed text. Naskh is the standard classification for this genre of connected, flowing Arabic letterforms suited to body text and display use.
