displayKufic Arabicitalic
Kufi specimen from ParaType

A Kufic-style Arabic display typeface drawn from classical calligraphy and modern Arabic type traditions, with a Latin complement borrowed from ParaType's FreeSet.

About

Designed by Lyubov Kuznetsova at ParaType in 1997, the typeface is grounded in study of both historical Kufic calligraphy and contemporary Arabic type design. Three weights are offered, each with an oblique companion, making six styles in total. The Latin glyphs are drawn from Tagir Safayev's FreeSet (1992), providing a functional if pragmatic companion script.

Classification

A display Arabic typeface in the Kufic calligraphic style, with geometric and angular letterforms derived from classical Arabic calligraphy. Categorised as display due to its decorative character and explicit recommendation for display typography.
