Damascus specimen from ParaType

An Arabic display typeface by Lyubov Kuznetsova, developed at ParaType in 1994 for advertising and poster use, tracing its lineage through Beirut (1977) to Esmat M. C. Chanbour's Al-Harf Al-Jadid.

About

Damascus was created at ParaGraph in 1994, building on Kuznetsova's earlier Beirut typeface from 1977, itself a version of Al-Harf Al-Jadid by Esmat M. C. Chanbour. The family offers only two styles – Bold and Bold Oblique – reflecting its targeted use in advertising and display contexts rather than continuous text. Its decorative character makes it suited to poster, magazine and screen applications.

Classification

An Arabic display typeface intended for advertising and poster use, derived from a lineage of Arabic typefaces including Al-Harf Al-Jadid. Its display orientation and decorative character place it firmly outside text type categories.
