Izhitsa specimen from ParaType

A display typeface rooted in pre-Petrine Cyrillic half-ustav script, adapted from a 19th-century Russian Academy of Sciences model and extended with a shadow style and Latin support.

About

Originally developed from the Kirillitsa typeface by Svetlana Yermolayeva (Polygraphmash, 1988), itself adapted from a half-ustav used by the Russian Academy of Sciences printing house in the late 19th century. Alexander Tarbeev added the Shadow style in 1994, giving the family a decorative dimension suited to packaging, advertising and editorial headings. Oleg Karpinsky expanded the character set in 2009 to include extended Latin alongside the existing Cyrillic and Church Slavonic characters.

Classification

Based on pre-Petrine Cyrillic half-ustav script, this is a display typeface rooted in historical Slavonic calligraphic tradition, placing it firmly in the decorative/display category with blackletter and uncial characteristics.
