A Soviet-era display typeface based on the hand-lettering of Moscow book artist Dmitry Bazhanov, originally drawn at Polygraphmash in 1961 and digitised for ParaType in 2001.
About
Originally produced at the Polygraphmash type design bureau by Mikhail Rovensky, the design draws directly from Dmitry Bazhanov's distinctive lettering work of the 1940s. Its old-fashioned character makes it well suited to title and display settings where a period Soviet aesthetic is required. The digital version, prepared by Lyubov Kuznetsova in 2001, brings the design into three styles: Regular, Italic and Bold.
Classification
A display typeface rooted in Soviet hand-lettering traditions of the 1940s, based on the lettering work of book artist Dmitry Bazhanov. Its decorative, hand-crafted character places it firmly in the display category rather than a conventional script or serif classification.
