A revival of early 18th-century Russian Grazhdansky typefaces, originally designed at Polygraphmash in 1946–51 by Galina Bannikova and digitised at ParaType in 2001 by Lyubov Kuznetsova.
About
Drawing on the Grazhdansky scripts commissioned under Peter the Great and Renaissance humanist Roman forms, the typeface retains archaic character shapes that distinguish it from more standardised Soviet-era designs. Available in three styles – Book, Italic and Bold – it functions across both text and display settings, with particular suitability for fiction and art publishing. The 2001 digital revision by Lyubov Kuznetsova refined and completed the original design for contemporary use.
Classification
Rooted in Russian Grazhdansky scripts of the early 18th century and Renaissance Roman humanist typefaces, Bannikova combines archaic Cyrillic letterform conventions with humanist proportions, placing it firmly in the humanist serif tradition.
