A single-weight experimental face by Yury Frolov (2007) built from fragments of world alphabets, archetypal symbols and cultural icons reassembled into illegible but evocative pseudo-script.
About
Alien Alphabet treats letterforms as raw material, breaking down recognisable elements from global writing systems, mathematical notation and cultural iconography before recombining them into sequences that suggest written language without yielding meaning. Set in a linear run, the shapes produce the rhythm and visual logic of text whilst remaining undecipherable. The design leans into that ambiguity, proposing that illegibility can heighten rather than reduce emotional engagement with a message.
Classification
A single-weight decorative face built from deconstructed letterforms and symbols rather than any conventional typographic tradition, placing it firmly in the display/experimental category.
