Dang
NoonFont · Iliya Salimi · 2024

A design-oriented typeface rooted in the Mohaqqaq classical Arabic script style, offered in two variants suited to titles and high-density text settings.
About
Dang draws on the Mohaqqaq tradition, one of the six classical Arabic styles, characterised by elegant lines, regular spacing and independent letter forms. Rather than replicating calligraphic conventions, designer Iliya Salimi has adapted the forms to a contemporary design sensibility, adjusting proportions and introducing numerous ligatures and alternates. The typeface covers Persian, Arabic, Urdu, Kurdish and Latin, with the Latin component tuned to match the grey value of the Arabic characters.
Classification
A design-oriented interpretation of the Mohaqqaq classical Arabic script style, featuring two stylistic variants for titling and dense text use. Its origins in the six classical styles of Arabic calligraphy, combined with a deliberately non-calligraphic approach, place it firmly in the display category.
