Banana Grotesk
Monkey Type · Meg Donohoe, Mitch Paone, Sebastian Carewe et al. · 2018

A low-contrast geometric grotesque with wide proportions and organic banana-curve terminals, spanning seven weights with matching italics.
About
Banana Grotesk was developed over three years by the MNKY Type collective, beginning as a from-memory sketch of Akzidenz Grotesk refined through Gill Facia influences. The result is a wide-set sans-serif with swooping terminals on 'a', 'g', 'f', 'j' and 't' that add personality without tipping into novelty. It holds up across scales – from brand identities to editorial text – and pairs well with serif workhorses.
Classification
Low-contrast geometric grotesque with wide proportions. Conceived as a sketch of Akzidenz Grotesk from memory, with Gill Facia influencing the organic terminals. Distinctive banana-curve tails on 'a', 'g', 'f', 'j' and 't' give it a playful character without fully crossing into display territory.
