Hardcover
Mark Simonson · Mark Simonson · 2025

A display serif dating back to a 1978 sketch of mass-market book-cover lettering, since built out into seven weights with matching italics and small caps.
About
Hardcover began as one of Simonson's earliest typeface ideas, a sketch from 1978 inspired by slick lettering he'd seen on mass-market book covers. The capitals follow a classic roman model reminiscent of Times New Roman but simplified for modern use, and the lowercase and figures echo that same construction, skipping ball terminals and angled serifs. It's built for large display use rather than dense text, with matching italics and small caps across all weights, plus two variable fonts bundled with the full family.
Classification
A serif built on a classic roman capital model with simplified, modern lowercase, intended for display rather than small text.
