Waldenburg specimen from Kimera

A 48-cut superfamily by Michael Clasen and Marcel Saidov that balances geometric construction with humanist warmth through strong vertical contrast, subtle squarish forms and a consistently high x-height across all widths.

About

Designed from initial sketches in 2019 and expanded over several years, Waldenburg spans five widths from Condensed to Extended, each in eight weights, with italic cuts contributed by Marcel Saidov from 2022. The superfamily's defining trait is its unified x-height across all 48 cuts, ensuring compatibility between styles set together. Alternate glyphs, heavy and light punctuation sets, heraldic symbols and a full suite of OpenType features give it considerable range across both analogue and screen contexts.

Classification

Waldenburg combines humanist warmth with geometric precision, featuring strong vertical contrast, subtle squarish forms and a super high x-height. Its construction is mathematically precise yet optically warm, placing it firmly in the humanist sans tradition.
