A variable revival of Tuvia Aharoni's 1935 Hebrew geometric sans, originally issued by Ludwig & Mayer alongside Erbar Grotesk, now extended to 15 styles across three widths with a new Latin companion set.
About
Designed by Tuvia Aharoni for the Frankfurt foundry Ludwig & Mayer, the original typeface was paired with Erbar Grotesk and became one of the most widely used Hebrew typefaces in print across the mid-twentieth century. This variable edition preserves the full historical range of widths and weights documented across various print shops, adds a Black weight not present in the original, and introduces a complete Latin set drawn in sympathy with Erbar. Stylistic sets include Bauhaus Hebrew alternates, clean alternates and short descenders, giving compositors considerable flexibility.
Classification
A geometric sans-serif Hebrew typeface originally designed in the 1930s as a counterpart to Erbar Grotesk, sharing its numerals and punctuation. The variable revival extends across three widths and five weights, with a Latin companion set drawn in the same geometric idiom.
