Eckmania Variable specimen from Double Zero

A variable-font revival of Otto Eckmann's 1900 Eckmannschrift, spanning text and display optical sizes through a continuous axis that shifts terminals from serif-like forms to loose brush strokes.

About

Drawing on the original punches cut by Louis Hoell for the Rudhardsche foundry, 00 Eckmania reinterprets Eckmannschrift as a two-axis variable font covering weight and optical size. Rather than pinning the design to a single historical source, the optical size axis opens a spectrum of voices, with smaller settings holding up at text sizes and the display extreme unleashing full decorative flourish. The foundry notes that unpublished Eckmann drawings for a cursive and an initials companion suggest future italic and monospace axes.

Classification

A digital revival of Otto Eckmann's 1900 Eckmannschrift, combining organic pen-drawn strokes with serif-like terminals that morph across an optical size axis. Its expressive, historicist character firmly places it in the display category, though text weights are included.
