Designed by Ibrahim Hamdi and Abdo Mohamed for Boharat, Zanjabeel combines the legibility of traditional Naskh with the angular geometry of Modern Kufi. Nine weights from Thin to Black give the family broad tonal range, while selective italic letterforms introduce a dynamic quality unusual in contemporary Arabic type. It is intended primarily for headlines, large-scale print and digital applications in Arabic, Persian and Urdu.
Classification
A hybrid Arabic typeface blending the calligraphic Naskh tradition with geometric Modern Kufi forms, resulting in a contemporary Arabic display face. The mix of these two styles places it closest to a sans-serif category, given the Kufi influence's geometric and stroke-simplified character.
