Amdal
Velvetyne · Walid Bouchouchi · 2022

A Tifinagh titling face built to widen the small pool of digital type for the Tamazight alphabet.
About
Amdal means world in Tamazight, and Walid Bouchouchi built it in Tifinagh, the script used to write the Berber language across Algeria and Morocco. The project began as a lettering job for a Sahara-inspired fashion collection and grew into a fuller titling font covering Basic-IRCAM, Extended, Neo-Tifinagh and Touareg character sets. Few Tifinagh typefaces exist, and Amdal is meant as a starting point for others.
Classification
Written in Tifinagh, the alphabet used for Tamazight (Berber), an ancient script that fell out of use before linguists and historians helped reintroduce it. Grew out of a lettering commission for a Sahara-inspired fashion collection.
