La Contraste Horizontale specimen from Naïma Ben Ayed Bureau

A trilingual high-contrast display typeface co-designed by Naïma Ben Ayed and Redouan Chetuan, spanning Latin, Arabic and Tifinagh scripts with roots in Maghrebi calligraphy and Andalusian hybrid letterforms.

About

Born from sketchbook work in Marrakech during the Typographic Matchmaking in the Maghreb project, the design brings together the non-conformism of Maghrebi script, the typographic possibilities of Tifinagh, and the hybrid Arabic/Latin letterforms of Andalusia. The result is an unapologetically high-contrast face that operates across three scripts with a coherent visual identity. It forms part of a larger super family developed alongside Redouan Chetuan.

Classification

A high-contrast display typeface with a trilingual scope covering Latin, Arabic and Tifinagh scripts. The design draws on hybrid Andalusian letterforms and Maghrebi calligraphic tradition, placing it firmly in the display category with strong cultural specificity.
