UT Block specimen from UnitType

A single-style condensed display typeface by James Smith, built on squared modular forms and sharp angular cuts for use at scale in headlines and signage.

About

UT Block draws on brutalist architectural principles, using tight spacing and hard-angled geometry to create a face with real typographic weight. Designed for large-format applications, it includes five stylistic sets offering alternate double-storey 'a', classical 'r', compact '4' and hairline punctuation alternatives. The single condensed style ships with 760 glyphs and broad Latin language coverage spanning several hundred languages.

Classification

A single-style condensed display typeface with squared, modular forms and sharp angular cuts, placing it firmly in the display category with a brutalist, architectural character rather than any classical serif or sans tradition.
