A Didone text companion to Bridge Head, designed by Mona Franz in 2019 for longform reading across five weights with matching italics.
About
Originating as a TypeMedia 2018 master project in The Hague, Bridge Text adapts the graphic qualities of Bridge Head specifically for body text, with opened-out letterforms, slightly narrow proportions, moderate stroke contrast and an ample x-height. The characteristic two-cornered counter shape provides a crisp texture at small sizes, while the overall vertical stress and modern treatment trace the typeface's lineage back to classical Didone models. Ten styles, over 800 glyphs, small caps, case-sensitive punctuation and a variable font version make it well equipped for editorial and corporate typographic systems.
Classification
Bridge Text is a contemporary Didone with vertical stress and high stroke contrast, refined from its display companion Bridge Head for text use at smaller sizes. The asymmetrical counters and crisp two-cornered counter shapes are characteristic of the Didone tradition adapted for editorial legibility.
