A geometric Arabic typeface extended into Latin by Dr. Mamoun Sakkal and Juliet Shen, spanning seven weights with extensive OpenType stylistic sets for multilingual editorial and newspaper use.
About
Awan Zaman began as a geometric Arabic design, with the Latin companion developed to bridge the gap between the choppy strokes of geometric construction and the graceful, curved forms of Arabic. Seven weights from Thin to Heavy are supported by multiple stylistic sets, tabular figures, fractions, and super- and subscript features. The result is a coherent bilingual family suited to editorial and newspaper environments where Arabic and Latin must coexist on the same page.
Classification
Originated as a geometric Arabic typeface and extended into Latin, with curved and novel Latin forms designed to harmonise with the graceful strokes of the Arabic script. The geometric construction and multi-script coordination place it firmly in the geometric sans category.
