A neo-Baroque text typeface by Jordi Embodas drawing on the goût hollandois tradition, with a tall x-height, compact proportions and readable italics informed by Gerard Unger's branching conventions.
About
Trola's roman cuts carry traces of Johann Michael Fleischman in the 'a' and 'g', while its italics reflect the branching approach associated with Gerard Unger. The family's large x-height and short extenders make it well-suited to small sizes and space-constrained settings, with sufficient contrast to hold its own at headline sizes. Cyrillic support, designed by Letterjuice and supervised by Ilya Ruderman and Yury Ostromentsky, was added in the 2017 update.
Classification
Trola follows the goût hollandois tradition with a tall x-height, condensed proportions and dark colour, drawing on Baroque models such as Fleischman while reflecting contemporary Dutch type trends. Its moderate contrast and sturdy construction place it firmly in the neo-Baroque category.
