Reeshet-Khudair specimen from Tarek Atrissi Design

A four-weight Arabic display revival based on the distinctive cinema and theatre calligraphy of Egyptian master Khodeir Elborsaedy, brought to digital form by designer Najla Badran.

About

Rooted in the hand-lettering that defined Egyptian cinema and theatre titles of the 1970s and 80s, the typeface captures Elborsaedy's hallmark qualities: expressive flexibility, formal beauty and stylistic variety within each letterform. An extensive set of ligatures and stylistic alternates gives designers room to replicate the spontaneity of the original calligraphic work. The family was shortlisted and awarded third prize at the Granshan international type design competition in the Arabic Display category.

Classification

An Arabic display typeface reviving the hand-lettering style of Egyptian calligrapher Khodeir Elborsaedy, with extensive ligatures and stylistic sets characteristic of 1970s–80s Egyptian cinema titling work.
