On a mission to create the world’s biggest index of typefaces from the world’s best type foundries

displayvariable displaycondensed
Pouf specimen from Studio Linda Hintz

A fully variable display typeface conceived in 2017 and released in 2022, built around three masters — compressed, normal and expanded — that share horizontal metrics to enable smooth animation.

About

Inspired by Erwin Wurm's Fat Cars and woodtype specimen, Pouf treats letterforms as inflatable objects, moving between deflated and inflated states via a variable font axis. The three masters share identical horizontal metrics so individual characters hold their position during animation. Latin Extended support is ongoing, with the .notdef glyph treated as an expressive, versioned element of the project's in-progress nature.

Classification

A fully variable display typeface with three master stages — compressed, normal and expanded — inspired by inflated and deflated forms derived from woodtype specimen and sculptural references. Its expressive, wobbly letterforms place it firmly in the display category.
