Zella Grotesk specimen from Slow Fonts

A five-weight grotesque designed as a personal workhorse tool, drawing on late 19th and early 20th century North American and European type specimens.

About

Designed over 2018–2023 by Fabien Coupas, Zella Grotesk retains classic grotesque details: a serifed leg on the 'R', a smooth two-storey 'g' and 'a', a softly tailed 'a' and a curved 'e' terminal. Italics are drawn at a gentle 10-degree angle to maintain reading comfort. The family ships with ten stylistic sets, four figure styles, case-sensitive forms and standard ligatures.

Classification

Draws directly from late 19th and early 20th century North American and European grotesque and neo-grotesque specimens, retaining characteristic features such as a two-storey 'a' and 'g', a serifed 'R' leg and a warm curved 'e' terminal.
