About
Fugue was developed for the Werkplaats Typografie tenth anniversary book in 2008, conceived as a formal conversation with Paul Renner's geometric tradition. Strong circular forms, very low stroke contrast and a capital I with bars give it a precise, industrial character; stylistic alternates in the italic allow a more humanist double-storey 'a' and 't'. The family has since grown to five styles, including a monospace and the display-oriented Tails variant, with Latin and Cyrillic coverage across more than 30 languages.
Classification
Geometric sans-serif built as an explicit dialogue with Paul Renner's work. Strong circular forms and extremely low stroke contrast place it close to the Futura tradition, though with distinctive moves: a characteristic lowercase g, a capital I with bars, and stylistic alternates for double-storey 'a' and 't' in the italic. Originally designed solely at 12pt text size; the 2016 additions of Head and the subsequent Tails variant extended it into display use.
